41 Books on Regenerative Agriculture That Will Fill You With Hope! (Part 1)
If you can't find a book for you in this list you may need to write it yourself.
Not long ago I was a guest on the Meme Factory TM podcast. We talked about Regenerative Agriculture, soil, and a host of other things. I was asked what books people should read concerning the subject of Regenerative Agriculture. The second that question was asked I could see my bookcase in my mind staring at me and laughing. How in the world could I answer that question and not include the “Lord’s plenty” of tomes I have ingested concerning topics like biochar, pastures, grazing, soil, and the resident microbiology involved in all of them? I was able to fight through my stammering mind to pull out the great works of authors like Gardener Jeff, Paul Stamets, and Allan Savory but there was so much more, and with time running short we had to end the podcast there.
Soon after, I resolved to build a kind of bibliography of these great works to share with others and that’s what you’re going to get in multiple editions of The Network.
If you would like to hear the podcast where it all began you may do so here (DISCLAIMER: adult language).
Let’s begin!
1.) Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds & Shape Our Futures by Merlin Sheldrake.
From fungal relationships of plants, trees, whole forests, and the Human mind to Bioremediation, this book has it all.
2.) The Biological Farmer: A Complete Guide to the Sustainable & Profitable Biological System of Farming by Gary Zimmer.
Soil chemistry, Cation Exchange Capacity, biochemistry, and soil critters. All of these and so much more are explained in this tome.
3.) Quality Agriculture: Conversations about Regenerative Agronomy with Innovative Scientists and Growers by John Kempf
A collection of transcripts from discussions with top names in the Regenerative Agriculture space on the Regenerative Agriculture Podcast. Many of the biggest names are represented here and the discussions are fascinating to read!
4.) Teaming with Fungi: The Organic Grower's Guide to Mycorrhizae by Jeff Lowenfels
This one is a great entry point for the novice. It'll take you deep into a rabbit hole of connections between plants and fungi in an easy-to-understand way. It's quite a ride so buckle up! 🚀
5.) Teaming with Microbes: The Organic Gardener's Guide to the Soil Food Web, Revised Edition by Jeff Lowenfels
Jeff started you off with fungi and now he takes you to the zoo! If you thought soil was just there to keep plants upright think again. What goes on in the soil to support plant health and nutrition is amazing.
That’s it for now. I will add more books in further editions of The Network so STAY TUNED!
